Training Programs

Achieve a Black Belt in Life at any age!

Dojo Karate takes our training programs very seriously. No two classes are alike, as we design our classes based on the needs, goals and skills of each student in that class. We guarantee our classes will encourage character development and healthy lifestyles. Learn more about Our Philosophy here.

At any age, Dojo Karate classes will teach a multitude of skills, including:

One Steps:

A short sequence of basic Karate moves that can be used to defend yourself when being attacked.

Self-Defense:

Real-life techniques that help you free yourself from an attacker, block attacks, and disable an attacker.

Combinations:

Techniques designed to build conditioning and stamina that can be used in sparring.

Form:

A sequence of movements traditionally simulating a multiple attacker situation.

While the Dojo Karate instructors uniquely design each class, there are some general skills students will learn based on their age group. Dojo Karate also provides classes that focus on ground self-defense, kickboxing, sport training, character development and competitions for all ages and abilities. See below for more details on our class options.

Dojo's Training Programs

- PreSchool / Kindergarten(Approximately 3 to 5 Years)-

At this young age, Dojo is dedicated to help our young students develop basic skills that both parents and children can be proud of.

Dojo Karate recognizes that preschoolers and kindergarteners are at a critical age. They are likely just entering or in the beginning stages of school, so we focus on following directions at this age. Each little martial artist will also be developing motor skills, balance, coordination, discipline and respect while practicing basic kicks, punches, and self-defense moves. Our instructors will show each student how to complete each task, giving plenty of individual attention and positive reinforcement. Dojo Karate wants each child to be proud of their achievements when they leave our classes, motivated to apply their new skills at home and school.

To aid each student in succeeding in Karate and in school, we show them how focus, dedication and hard work will lead to positive results.

Our junior students are in early grade school and are often beginning to focus more on academics, social lives and additional sports and activities. To aid each student in succeeding in Karate and in school, we show them how focus, dedication and hard work will lead to positive results. Our programs also teach these multifaceted children confidence and how to give and earn respect within their peers. Dojo instructors will begin teaching forms, sparring and self-defense at this age, and these skills will keep your child in great shape to participate in other sports and will provide them with extra skills to succeed.

- Pre-Teen(Approximately 10 to 13 Years)-

These classes will each continue to learn more detailed and skilled versions of one-steps, self-defense movements, combinations and forms.

During the pre-teen years, Dojo Karate will help your child combat the social challenges that may cross their paths, such as bullying. We will work on building a strong sense of self-confidence and discipline that will aid in the challenges of life. Our classes will each continue to learn more detailed and skilled versions of one-steps, self-defense movements, combinations and forms. Every student will continue to improve their balance, coordination and fitness abilities as the skills become more challenging. Dojo often sees friendships building at this age with students that have common interests. Karate truly helps students reach their fitness and personal goals.

- Teenagers & Above(Approximately 13 Years and Older)-

At this point we aim for each student to excel in their Karate skills, potentially even participating in local, national or international competitions.

With our teenage and adult students, we are really practicing our “creating Champions in Life” philosophy. At this point we aim for each student to excel in their Karate skills, potentially even participating in local, national or international competitions. We love to see our older students continue with their skills into high school, college and their adult lives. It isn’t uncommon for our older students to work as instructors while they’re in young adult transitions. At this point we hope to have instilled habits into our students that will prove beneficial in their careers. Some of these skills include focus, motivation, determination, goal-setting and leadership.

- Ground Self-Defense(Junior Level and Above)-

This program will show our students how to defend themselves if they find themselves on the ground during an altercation.

The Dojo Karate Ground Self-Defense program is designed to help our students adequately defend themselves if they find themselves on the ground during an altercation. Knowing that most altercations will go to the ground in under two minutes, we want to ensure that our students have well-rounded knowledge to protect themselves if they are on their back or on top of the offender. This class combines the skills and strategies used in jiu-jitsu, wrestling and general self-defense. It is extremely popular for our adult students, but we offer this class for our Junior level students and above.

We also offer kickboxing classes to our students that are Junior level or above. Our instructors will work on a variety of skills with each student, including but not limited to: jabs, crosses, uppercuts, hooks and hand combinations. Everyone is provided with kickboxing gloves, not just hand pads. This program is very fitness driven, encouraging each participant to further develop in their fitness level and reach their cardio goals while having fun, learning new skills and competing.

- Youth & Sport Training(All Ages)-

This program helps our students gain an overall confidence in what their body can do while giving them skills they can apply to other sports and activities.

This program helps our students gain an overall confidence in what their body is capable of and what to do with it. Within our classes and with outside teams and groups, we work on agility, coordination, footwork, flexibility and many more skills that will apply to the other sports and activities each athlete is involved in. For the more advanced levels, we provide resistance training using a high intensity rope training system, or H.I.R.T.S System. This multi-tiered, multipurpose training unit was developed for the U.S. National Wrestling Training Center and has many options for individual drills or group activities. Each student that participates in our sport training programs will walk away with improved athleticism that can be specifically applied to another sport or activity they are training for.

- Character Development(All Ages)-

This discussion based class focuses on leadership, sportsmanship, community involvement and the attitude of gratitude.

Dojo Karate strongly believes in prioritizing the character development of our students along with the technical skills we teach them. While each of our classes instill respect, confidence, self-discipline and many other lifestyle choices into our students, our Character Development class is a sit-down, discussion based class focused on creating leaders and developing life skills. We have designed a specific curriculum that will not only give our students the skills to become our future generation leaders, but will show them the great advantage that leadership, sportsmanship, gratitude and charity work will give them to achieve their goals.
