Autism and Martial Arts Training

Autism and Martial Arts Training

People with autism spectrum disorders may have many challenges in life, including difficulties in social situations and with communication. They may exhibit repetitive behaviors or experience sleep disturbances, anxiety, or other disorders. But the difficulties come with specialties and unique strengths, too! Learning martial arts can create a rewarding experience for someone on the autism spectrum. Consistency and repetition in these classes create a familiar yet thriving environment, which helps improve basic life skills outside of the classroom. Practicing martial arts reduces anxiety and expends excess energy. Students with autism learn to engage and cooperate, gain confidence, and have more positive social interactions. Because the martial arts encompass movement, students also improve balance, coordination, and body strength.

Dojo Karate trains people of all ages and abilities, including people on the autism spectrum. Our mission is to help our students evolve into their best selves, starting with self-defense. Our teaching processes encourage and develop focus, confidence, and self-respect for people with autism spectrum disorders.

Dojo Karate’s 8th Annual Charity Golf Tournament takes place on Sunday, August 12, 2018, at Riverwood National Golf Course in Otsego. A dinner, silent auction, and prizes will follow the golf tournament.

Dojo Karate has raised over $80,000 for the Autism Society of Minnesota through their annual golf tournaments.

AuSM offers greater understanding and better school support for children on the autism spectrum. This organization provides resources for families to learn and adapt to the challenges of autism. The Autism Society of Minnesota offers educational development, social opportunities, advocacy, outreach, and referral services to the community.

The registration fee is $100 per golfer and includes eighteen holes, a cart, and dinner. Please make checks payable to Dojo Karate. All proceeds benefit the Autism Society of Minnesota.
